Albrecht Dürer

Albrecht Dürer spent time in Brussels during his travels in the Netherlands in 1520-1521, and he had the opportunity of visiting the gardens of the ducal palace and of admiring the Inca and Aztec collections belonging to Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. In his travel journal he wrote, “Behind the house of the King of Brussels, I saw fountains, a maze and an animal garden. Never in my life have I seen anything more entertaining and pleasant. It is like a paradise.”
