Transformations

The Archdukes resided primarily in Brussels and made considerable changes to their palace there. A floor was added to the whole of the main corps de logis (main block) and a balustrade was added to the entire length of the facades, providing visual unity. The gardens were improved by the construction of a grand fountain where the old fortified wall had stood. A private gallery directly linked the palace to the near-by Saint-Jacques church.
