1807–1815

Duchy of Warsaw

In 1807-1815 the independent Polish state is substituted by the Duchy of Warsaw, dependent on the French Empire. It is established by Emperor Napoleon I in 1807 on the strength of peace treaties signed on 7 and 9 July 1807 in Tilsit by the French Empire, the Russian Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia. Napoleon entrusts Stanisław Kostka Potocki, a politician, reformer and the then owner of the Wilanów residence, with the task of drafting the constitution of the Duchy of Warsaw.
