Victory of "Solidarity"

Following the years of communist regime, long-lasting strikes and a general social mobilization, democratic opposition in Poland gets the upper hand. The so-called August Agreements are signed. Among others the agreements stipulate the right to from free trade unions. The entire structure of the communist bloc in Europe collapses. Martial law declared in 1981 suspends the process of reforms. They are resumed after the 1989 first free election in Poland.
