Stanisław Kostka Potocki

In 1799 Izabela Lubomirska hands the Wilanów residence over to her daughter Aleksandra and son-in-law Stanisław Kostka Potocki, an outstanding politician, collector and scholar. Potocki leaves the oldest rooms of the palace intact, thus creating space to commemorate King Sobieski. During his frequent travels through Europe, Potocki purchases works of art and carries out archaeological excavation works in Italy. The portrait of Potocki painted by Jacques-Louis David in 1781 constitutes one of the most valuable exhibits of the Wilanów collection.
