Mausoleum of the Potockis

In the forefield of the Wilanów Palace Aleksander Potocki raises a monumental, neo-Gothic mausoleum of his parents, Aleksandra and Stanisław Kostka Potocki. Employed on the project are eminent artists: architect Henryk Marconi and sculptor Jakub Tatarkiewicz, a pupil of inter alia Bertel Thorvaldsen. The mausoleum form is inspired by the medieval gravestone of Casimir the Great, King of Poland, located in the Wawel Cathedral in Cracow (a place of particular significance in the history of Poland).
