The Petit Trianon

The Petit Trianon was built on a request of Louis XV for Madame de Pompadour in 1760. In 1774, Louis XVI gave it to his wife Marie-Antoinette, who wished to escape the Court’s obligations. This masterpiece of Ange-Jacques Gabriel is representative of the neoclassical architecture. Sobriety, reasoned richness of embellishments, order and perfection characterize this style which draws its inspiration from Antiquity.
