Marie-Antoinette

Marie-Antoinette, daughter of the emperor Francis I of Lorraine and Maria-Theresa of Autria, married Louis XVI, then dauphin of France in 1770. Used to the Austrian palaces’ simple protocol, she beared Versailles’s etiquette with difficulty and took refuge in her private apartments and at the Petit Trianon's domaine given to her by Louis XVI in 1774. It’s in this rural setting that she spent private moments with her children and devoted her time to organise theatrical performances.
