1715–1774

Rule of Louis XV of France

Great-grand-child of Louis XIV, he succeeds him after his death in 1715 at five, he officially becomes the head of the government at his majority in 1723. In 1725, he marries Marie Leszczynska. Used to trust his ministers with political decisions, he begins his personal reign in 1743 but still relies on the guidance of his favorite, Madame de Pompadour. Under his rule, France looses its possessions in India and Canada whereas the Lorraine and the Corse are annexed. Keen scientist, Louis XV encourages the acclimatization of exotic plants.
