Archaeological digs

The palace rose from the ashes in 1984 during restoration work on one of the buildings around place Royale. An initial archaeological dig was led by the Service national des Fouilles. This was followed by 25 years of work conducted by: the Flemish Community’s archaeological organisation Bestuur voor Monumenten en Landschappen; the Société Royale d’Archéologie de Bruxelles; and the archaeology section of the Direction des Monuments et Sites of the Brussels-Capital Regional Ministry.
