Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau developed as a reaction to eclecticism, excessive industrialisation and the various “neo” trends (Neoclassicism, neo-Gothic etc.). In 1893, Victor Horta and Paul Hankar both built houses serving as manifestos for the new movement. Other famous Art Nouveau architects include Henry Van de Velde, Octave Van Rijsselberghe and Gustave Strauven.
