Vers 1494–1553

François Rabelais

François Rabelais was not only a doctor, but also a Renaissance humanist and a major French writer of the 16th century. Although he had the approval of Francis 1st, his satirical work was not well received and often frowned upon, in particular his Gargantuan series including two of his major works: Pantagruel (1532) and Gargantua (1534).
