1562–1598

French Wars of Religion

For nearly 40 years, the civil war between Protestants and Catholics raged in France. Beginning with the massacre of Huguenots worshippers in Vassy by Francis of Guise in 1562and will only end in 1598 with the Edict of Nantes. The climax of those wars is certainly St. Bartholomew's Day massacre which took place in Paris on August 24th 1572 and was repeated by many other cities in France in the two following months.
