The Revolutions of 1848

The year 1848 saw the culmination of a succession of revolutions across Europe. Inspired by the French Revolution in February 1848, the Germans, Italians, Hungarians, Czechs, Poles, Austrians and others rose up, demanding liberal reforms; Separatist movements in some countries and a desire for national unity were also founding principles behind the insurrection. Despite the force and breadth of the movement, the whole uprising was repressed but it did have widespread consequences in the long-term.
